Cathedral Consort

The founding of the Cathedral Consort in January 2010 was a new and exciting development in the Cathedral's music programme. The Consort is a small mixed choir which rehearses weekly, and membership is open to any singers with some vocal and sight-reading ability, after an informal audition.

The Consort plays an important part in the musical life of the Cathedral, rehearsing on Tuesday evenings and singing for Evensong on Thursdays. They also join with the Cathedral Choir for a number of major events and concerts during the course of the year. The combined choirs have sung for performances of Handel's Theodora and Bach's St John Passion as part of the Brecon Baroque Festivals in 2013 and 2015, and the Consort and the Cathedral Choir together toured in France in 2014. When choristers leave the Cathedral Choir at the end of Year 8, the Consort provides an opportunity for them to continue to be involved in choral music at the Cathedral.
