15-Minute Midday Meditation brings calm to busy lives
15 Minute Church at St David's in Penllergaer gained worldwide attention when it was launched, but it is also having an influence closer to home.
Inspired by the success of the innovative service, Rev’d Lisa Morgan has started a 15-minute Christian meditation event which will be held on Thursday's at St Mary's in Swansea city centre.
Thursday Midday Meditation is a chance for shoppers and workers to take time out of their busy lives and is open to everyone.
"Before I was ordained, I worked for several years in retail in the centre of Swansea. I loved it, but it could be stressful at times, especially in the run up to Christmas," Lisa said.
"Reading of the success of Rev'd John Gillibrand’s 15-minute service, I wondered if something short and sweet - giving workers, shoppers and visitors, the chance to recharge their batteries during the busy working day - might be something that may benefit them.
"My husband is a big fan of meditation, using it to manage pain and stress due to a complicated medical condition, and was sure it would be something that people would find invaluable, so we decided to launch Thursday Midday Meditation, a 15-minute guided meditation session, held at 12.30pm. No prior experience is needed, and its suitable for those of any faith and none, because our church is a place for the whole community.
"St Mary’s is the perfect venue, being at the heart of our wonderful city, providing a haven of calm from the rush and noise of Swansea. We warmly invite anyone who wants to feed their mind and their soul, as well as their body, to join us. You’ll still have plenty of time for that cheeky trip to Greggs."
