View over Brecon

The view here looks over Brecon town and the Brecon Beacons. Standing here you can see many of Brecon’s landmarks. On a clear day Pen y Fan and the Beacons are on the horizon. In front of them you can see the beautiful Georgian Priory Hill House, with the Postern running down into the town, past the old Postern School and the former Borough gaol on the left. You can’t see the ruins of Bernard de Neufmarché’s 11th century castle amidst the trees and the rooves of the houses. Neither will you glimpse the remains of the 12th century castle keep known as Ely Tower within the walls of the Bishop’s residence, but if you take a wander down the road afterwards you’ll be able to spot them. You will be able to see at a distance the sixteenth century Buckingham Tower of St Mary’s church, and if you know the town well you can pick out the main roads and buildings. You get a good sense from this viewpoint of the town nestled at the side of the Usk and the Honddu, and can appreciate some of its beauty within the landscape.
