A young Ospreys fan has raised more than £3,500 for a Welsh rugby player who recently lost his leg after a motorbike accidentTen-year-old Callum Powell, who is the youngest member of St.Hilary's, Killay, had orginally hoped to raise £2,500 for an appeal set up to help Ifan Phillips' recovery and rehabilitation. The Wales Under-20 international made 40 appearances for the Ospreys but sustained life-changing injuries in December and had to have his leg amputated.Callum said: "I was really upset when I heard about Ifan, one of my favourite Ospreys’ players. I thought about what I can do and as I don’t have much money I thought I could try to help raise more money to help Ifan. He’s had his rugby career cut short but he is so smiley and positive about his recovery . My fundraiser is to to raise money to go towards an ongoing fund set up by his best friend to buy a prosthetic leg for Ifan and to help in his long term recovery and rehabilitation."Callum completed a sponsored 5k run on January 30, raising more than £2,500. Ifan was waiting for Callum at the finish line to thank him in person. Vicar of St Hilary's, Rev'd Phil Gwynn, said: "Young Callum has two greats loves in his life, rugby - Dunvant RFC and Ospreys -, and his regular church attendance. Callum is a very confident young person and prepared by mum, Lisa he has built his physical strength up, endurance-wise to successfully complete this 5km run.
