Faculty applications within the Church in Wales are now online. The new system is user-friendly, and guides you through the process. It allows you to save your progress and return later if you need to gather more information and to attach supporting documentation. Applicants will also be able to track the progress of their faculty. What is a faculty? If you need to carry out any work to your church (other than routine maintenance and minor repairs), then you will need permission to do so in the form of a faculty, which applies to all Church of Wales’ churches regardless of whether or not they are listed.Registering onlineThe Online Faculty System (OFS) and the Church Heritage Cymru (CHC) database are currently located on the same website, and it is this website that applicants/petitioners will need to register with. Once registered, applicants/petitioners have access to an extra applications tab which displays a dashboard where faculty applications can be viewed.Registering with the OFS is quick and easy. You will be required to fill in some details about yourself, choose email preferences, select your role (applicant in this case), and the church and diocese to which you belong. There’s a guide to help you through the process here.Faculty typesThere are three types of faculty you can apply for. List A applications cover routine maintenance or minor like-for-like repairs. List B applications cover straightforward works that have little or no impact on the fabric of the church or churchyard. You can find out more about Lists A and B applications here.Full facultyA full faculty is needed for works which would affect or alter the fabric of a historic building. You can find out more about how to apply here.ContactOur Diocesan Advisory Committee Secretary is Alison Amphlett.Email: AlisonAmphlett@cinw.org.ukTel: 07989 560690
