Pupils’ pilgrimage inspired by bible journey

Pupils from Ysgol Gynradd Gymraeg Tan-y-lan in Swansea have made a pilgrimage to a local church, inspired by one girl’s journey to buy a Bible.
Year 2 pupils at Tan-y-lan have been learning about Mari Jones – a young girl who walked 25 miles to purchase her first bible - and asked to do a similar walk to get an idea of the efforts Mari went through.
Although they couldn’t participate in a walk of the same distance, one of the school vicars, Rev’d Anthony Porter, took the pupils on a two-mile pilgrimage walk from the school to local church in Llangyfelach, Ss David & Cyfelach.
Pupils were then given a tour of the church and grounds and were able to ask questions.
“The enthusiastic vicar walked along with us and was very friendly and encouraging. Within the church, the vicar was thrilled with the questions the children were asking, and he was more than happy to teach the children about the church and its surrounding. After our session in church, Vicar Anthony and the children walked back to school full of smiles and each and every one of them couldn’t stop talking about their visit to the church. We as a school are very grateful for having Vicar Anthony so willing to teach us about faith,” Year 2 said.
Anthony said: “It is so rewarding to be able share the Gospel of Jesus with children in the school. It was a wonderful experience for the children, the teaching team and myself and, while walking, we were able to engage in lots of conversations including talking about Jesus.”
