Pop-up event distributes children's clothes to families in need
Hundreds of items of clothing for babies and children have been distributed to families in need at a special pop-up event.
More than 50 people attended the event at Brecon Cathedral which was organised by Children, Youth & Families, Greater Brecon, St Paulinus’ Church in Llangors and Powys Flying Start.
Hundreds of clothing items were distributed from coats to swimming costumes, babygros and hats.
“All of these items were kindly donated by our local community,” Children, Youth & Families officer for Greater Brecon, Clare Morgan, said.
“‘It was particularly helpful to work with Flying Start at the event as well as meeting the local health visitors and family group co-ordinators. The event was also a great opportunity to recycle, reuse and do our bit for this planet.
“Many families were grateful for the opportunity to choose clean, good quality clothing for their babies and young children. All items were free, freshly laundered and ironed. The clothing was transported by volunteers from the Llangors Church Pre-loved clothes bank to Brecon. This pop-up event in town allowed those without transport to access the free clothes available.”
Rev’d Trina Lodge of St Paulinus’ Church said, ‘It was really heartening to see so many parents and grandparents really appreciative of the opportunity to find good quality, clean clothes for their families. An amazing amount of clothing was gratefully taken. We had some lovely feedback, too.
“It’s great to be able to help save the planet by recycling baby and children’s clothes, at the same time as helping families to have access to free, good quality clothes for their babies and children. It’s also very satisfying that these pre-loved clothes continue to be loved by others. Llangors Church is an Eco Church, committed to recycling and re-using, for the sake of our environment.”
The recycling project based at Llangors Church continues to grow and has become a community hub in the village and beyond. Llangors Church won't be accepting any further donations of baby and children’s clothes until April. If you would like to collect pre-loved clothes for your family, please visit St Paulinus Church in Llangors, during daylight hours.

“As well as our local supporters who donated items and helped organise this pop-up event, I would like to thank the Dean and Father Steven at Brecon Cathedral for their continued support,” Clare said.
