Diocese

‘Diocese’ refers to the geographical territory in which a bishop exercises oversight. The Church in Wales is divided into six dioceses each with its own cathedral in which is housed the cathedra (the bishop’s ‘chair’ or ‘throne’).

Ordinations services have taken place at Brecon Cathedral. Seven priests were ordained: Sam Aldred (Central Swansea), Janet Day (Buallt), Peter Letson (Glan Ithon), Gill Todd (Llanddew/ Brecon Cathedral), Meinir Ronicle (Buallt), Sister Marian (Sketty), Sally Rees (St Catwg Min Area), Samuel Patterson (Monmouth Diocese).

The diocese has also welcomed six new deacons. Ordained by Archbishop John were Sue Northcott (Pontardawe), Annabelle Elletson (St Catwg Ministry Area), Sue Waite (Gower Ministry Area), Jon Howard (Bro Tawe Uchaf), Lucy McKeown (Ithon Valley) and Biddy Wigley (Llwynderw). The readings were given by Lisa Morgan (Glan Ithon/Ithon Valley) and James Page (Llansamlet), who were ordained as stipendiary deacons in July by Archbishop John in the Chapel of St Michael at St Padarn’s Institute, Cardiff.
