Key milestones in Brecon Cathedral National Lottery Heritage Fund Grant Awarded Project
Brecon Cathedral has reached a major milestone in its National Lottery Heritage Fund Grant Awarded Project ‘People, Passion, Priory: Brecon Cathedral, The Heart and Soul of Community’ project aiming to attract more visitors to the 1,000-year-old cathedral through a combination of new interpretation and engagement, new equal access to the interior, and major roof improvements, building on work last undertaken by the Victorians.
Stephen Oliver of Oliver Architecture has been appointed to the role of lead architect and Nick Cragg and Andre-Paul Tsobgny of Cragg Management have been appointed to the role of Project Manager for this prestigious project.
Stephen Oliver, a conservation-accredited architect and historic buildings consultant, has been Brecon Cathedral Architect for eight years and was responsible for the successful scheme submitted to the National Lottery Heritage Fund. He looks after many churches in the Marches and is also Cathedral Architect to Peterborough Cathedral, one of the great medieval buildings in England.
Nick Cragg and Andre-Paul Tsobgny, with over thirty-years experience in heritage and arts management between them, have worked on two major cathedrals at Lincoln and St Albans, as well as theatres, museums, and even a castle.
The Dean of Brecon, Dr Paul Shackerley, commented that, “we are particularly delighted to secure Stephen Oliver for the project as he has been instrumental from the outset, and it was his proposals that led to the award of the National Lottery Heritage Fund grant. He will only build on the success he has brought this far.”
“We also welcome Nick Cragg and Andre-Paul Tsobgny to the team with their impressive and extremely relevant experience. No two cathedrals are alike, but we have chosen project managers with an incredible background of working on these magnificent buildings. They will bring an awful lot to the project, and we feel very lucky to have secured them both.”
“The next stage of the project is to submit a second application to the National Lottery Heritage Fund for the money needed to deliver all the outcomes we have identified. Stephen, Nick, and Andre-Paul will be key appointments to achieve this goal and we can’t wait to get started.”
