Bishop

‘Bishop’ comes from the Greek word for ‘overseer’. So a bishop is a senior Christian minister authorised to have oversight for God’s people. As well as duties given to deacons and priests, bishops confirm and ordain.

Diocese

‘Diocese’ refers to the geographical territory in which a bishop exercises oversight. The Church in Wales is divided into six dioceses each with its own cathedral in which is housed the cathedra (the bishop’s ‘chair’ or ‘throne’).

Create a poster for Cathedral Chaos

Our poster competition is open to children aged between 3-18 years who live or go to school within the area of Swansea & Brecon Diocese and can include schools, youth or community groups or parents entering their children. We’re asking children to get involved by creating an awesome poster for the Cathedral Chaos event on Thursday 1st September 2022. Your design could include a drawing of Brecon Cathedral, Bishop John, bouncy castle, soft play, craft activities, Message Bus or children and young people having fun at the Cathedral Chaos event. Whether you’re using pencils, felts, crayons or paint – we want you to have a go!

What is Cathedral Chaos?

Cathedral Chaos is a free, fun event at Brecon Cathedral. We hope to have a bouncy castle, soft play, crafts, activities, Message Bus, face painting, music and more! There’ll be an opportunity to meet Bishop John and discover more about what it’s like to be the Bishop in Swansea & Brecon.

We will add the date and title of the Cathedral Chaos event to your artwork so don’t worry about including these details. We just really want to see your colourful, unique and inspiring poster designs to encourage others to come along and join us at Cathedral Chaos.

All entrants must be within the age categories below:

Age 3-11

Age 12-18

One entry per child. Children must live or go to school within the Diocese of Swansea & Brecon. Entries must be one page of A4 paper only. You can either post your entry to: CYF, Diocesan Centre, Cathedral Close, Brecon, LD3 9DP or you can take a photo or scan of your entry and send it electronically to the CYF email address: cyfo.swanbrec@cinw.org.uk

Entrant first name and age
Category
Contact email or telephone number
Please note, the data submitted will be used for the administration of the competition. First names and ages may also be shared on our website, social media pages, etc.

Posters will be judged on their creativity and how they fit with the theme of Cathedral Chaos. There will be one winner per age category.

How we will use the posters:

Entries may be displayed and used for marketing purposes with only first names and ages used. We’ll host the submitted posters on our website, post them on social media and use them in newsletters, press releases and printed material to help raise awareness of the Cathedral Chaos event (Thursday 1st September).

Winners will be notified by email or telephone. The winning posters will be announced on 31st July 2022 and printed out and displayed around the Diocese to promote the Cathedral Chaos event.

The closing date for entries is 27th July 2022.
