Bishop

‘Bishop’ comes from the Greek word for ‘overseer’. So a bishop is a senior Christian minister authorised to have oversight for God’s people. As well as duties given to deacons and priests, bishops confirm and ordain.

Diocese

‘Diocese’ refers to the geographical territory in which a bishop exercises oversight. The Church in Wales is divided into six dioceses each with its own cathedral in which is housed the cathedra (the bishop’s ‘chair’ or ‘throne’).

Book your place at care for creation conference

Care for creation will be on the agenda at a CMS Wales & Borders Zoom conference in October.

The two-day event has been organised by Gill Knight, chair of the diocese's Eco Church working group, and Rev'd Rana Khan, leader of Catwg Ministry Area and the Bishop's Officer for World Mission. It will take place in the run-up to the COP26 climate change conference in Glasgow in November.

Speakers will be A Rocha's international director of theology Dave Bookless, national director of A Rocha Lebanon Colin Gibson and Kailean and Kim Khongsai, who have been working with A Rocha on the Wolf Fields community project.
