Bishops join call against Palestine annexation
Welsh bishops are speaking out against Israel’s plans to annex Palestinian land.
They have added their names to a statement calling for public bodies to ensure human rights and international law are respected, in response to Israel’s plans to annex land in the West Bank.
The Archbishop, John Davies, the Bishop of Bangor, Andy John, and the Bishop of St Davids, Joanna Penberthy, are among the 20 signatories from charities, trade unions and civil society organisations.
The statement states that the Israeli Government’s plans are “not only an attack on the rights and futures of Palestinians, but also against the very foundations of international law.” It calls on public bodies to guarantee they are not complicit, by ensuring their investments and procurement practices reflect their ethical and legal responsibilities.
