Fr Sam Aldred will lead a 'mini-pilgrimage' into one of Gower’s beauty spots in September.The Ilston Valley Mini-Pilgrimage will take place on Saturday, 23 September and is open to everyone."All of us need to carve out spaces in our lives for contemplation and quietness," Sam, Bishop’s Officer for Spirituality and Retreats, said. "While our schedules may not allow us the time for lengthy retreats, simply taking an afternoon to walk together can leave us refreshed and renewed."There will be no more than 45 minutes of walking each way, with a short reflection and evening prayer at the beautiful church of St Illtyd’s Ilston."The whole afternoon will take no more than three hours, and should be accessible to walkers of all ages and abilities," Sam said."Please meet in the car-park of the Gower Inn (SA3 2EQ) at 3pm on Saturday, 23 September. There is a fee of £2 for 3 hours parking (which can be renewed if you enjoy a drink or food in the pub afterwards), so we will need to leave at 3pm in order to ensure we’re back in time to avoid a fine."The walk takes in beautiful riverside scenery, the historic ruins of what is thought to be Wales’ first Baptist chapel, and the C13th church of St Illtyd. It is part of the Gower Pilgrimage Way, including a longer walk the following day, with a 4pm service in Llangennith led by Bishop John. "It is open to absolutely everyone.
