Brecon Cathedral will be holding a prayer vigil for the people of Ukraine on Thursday.The vigil will take place at 6pm.Churches in Brecon and Hay-on-Wye, including Brecon Cathedral, are also hosting drop-off points for collections for the people of Ukraine.

Hay, Brecon and Talgarth Sanctuary for Refugees is coordinating the collection and is appealing for medical supplies, toiletries and children's items. Donations can be left at St Mary's Church in Brecon, St Mary's Church in Hay and Brecon Cathedral by 10am on Thursday.The Church in Wales will be joining the wider church in Pope Francis’s call to make Ash Wednesday, 2 March, a day of prayer and fasting for peace. Archbishop Andrew John said: "I join with our political and church leaders in condemning the actions taken by the Russian Federation and urge a return, by all, to negotiation. I invite you to join me in praying for all those involved and for peace to return swiftly."As a sign of global solidarity with the people and churches of Ukraine, the Conference of European Churches, the Lutheran World Federation, the World Communion of Reformed Churches, and the World Methodist Council, have issued an invitation to an online prayer service for Ukraine on Ash Wednesday..
