There will be an opportunity to gather as God’s people and explore some of our ancient Christian sites next month, on a diocesan pilgrimage to Brecon.Led by Rev’d Sam Aldred, a curate in Swansea, and Canon Mark Clavier of Brecon Cathedral, the 3.5 mile pilgrimage will begin at the cathedral before a visit to Gerald Cambriensis’ Palace and Holy Communion at Llanddew church.Sam said: “The pilgrimage is open to anyone. It is a chance for Christians from across the Diocese of Swansea and Brecon to meet as God’s pilgrim people.“A pilgrimage is a journey with spiritual purpose. We will gather as God’s people from across our diocese, confessing our unity as members of God’s holy church. These ancient sites remind us that we are part of a Christian community which has worshipped in this corner of Wales for well over a thousand years. We are inheritors of an apostolic tradition that we are entrusted to preserve for future generations. It is a chance to pray, to sing hymns, to read scripture, to affirm our sacramental unity, and to share fellowship.”Those who feel able are encouraged to walk the 3.5 miles. Those who feel unable to tackle such a distance can drive between the cathedral and the church, taking in all the same points of interest.“As people will be travelling from all over the diocese, please make your own way to Brecon. There will be parking available at the cathedral, and at Llanddew village hall – about two minutes from the church there. Where possible do arrange transport with friends. There are buses from Swansea to Brecon. Do bring a packed lunch to eat at Llanddew, and for those who are walking remember to wear suitable footwear,” Sam said.“We will meet at Brecon Cathedral. The mid-point of the pilgrimage is beautiful Llanddew Church, about a mile and a half away, where we will share the Eucharist and have lunch. Several other points of spiritual interest will be considered in the immediate vicinity of these two churches.”The pilgrimage will take place on Saturday, September 25 and all are welcome.
