Lance Sharpe has been licensed as Priest-in-Charge of Gwastedyn and Associate Priest in the West Radnor Ministry Area.
Lance is the former head of the chaplaincy and spiritual care department of the Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University Health Board, which includes its acute hospitals, mental health and primary and community care.
Archbishop John led the service at a packed St Clement’s in Rhayader and, speaking about the reading from John 17 (1-9, 20-26), of the night before the crucifixion, he said: “Jesus is anxious for his disciples, he is concerned for his disciples. He wants them to be affirmed, he wants them to be sure that they know what they’re about. He wants them to understand what their task is.
“In terms of that task – because it is the same task that we undertake today – think of the words Jesus prayed not only for those who were there in the room with him, but prayed for you and me as individuals, that we might know the Father’s love and have the strength to reveal it through our lives.”
A large number of the congregation had made the journey from Swansea.
“It’s great to see the north and the south of the diocese together, friends old and friends new. I thank you all for coming, it’s very much appreciated,” Lance said.
