There was a round of applause for Faith in Families staff at the charity’s annual Christmas concert this morning.
St Mary’s Church in Swansea was full for the event, which heard performances from Faith in Families’ Clase, Bonymaen and Teilo’s community cwtches and Portmead Puddleducks. Cefn Hengoed Community School’s choir also took part.
Welcoming people to the concert, Ven Alan Jevons, the Archdeacon of Brecon and chairman of the diocese’s board for social responsibility, thanked staff for all their hard work throughout a difficult year, when funding for the three Swansea centres has been in doubt.
As well as hundreds of children and parents, also there were Swansea East MP Carolyn Harris, Swansea East AM Mike Hedges, Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Swansea Jill Johnson and Lord Mayor of Swansea Cllr David Phillips.
Retiring Mothers’ Union diocesan president Ruth Roberts presented a cheque on behalf of members.
“It’s a real pleasure to be able to give to Faith in Families,” Ruth said. “It’s something which really resonates with the objectives of the Mothers’ Union.”
Faith in Families is running a Christmas fundraising appeal this year, asking people to set an extra place for Jesus at the dinner table.
