Officers make church visit to mark National Police Memorial Day

It was National Police Memorial Day on Sunday, and St Mary The Virgin Rhossili marked the occasion by welcoming two local officers to church.

Jonathan Fairhurst, Local Policing Inspector Townhill and Gower Sector, and Pc Rich Jeavons of Reynoldston Police Station were invited to the service by Rev Justin Davies.

“Jonathan spoke to the congregation about the work of the police in the area,” Rev Justin said. “He emphasised the volume of time spent with those who are vulnerable in society and noted he had been on three calls the previous day with individuals who were contemplating suicide.

“He also explained the local work of the force in Gower, handling the holiday visitors and caring for those who find themselves in trouble of any kind.  Following the service Jonathan and Richard spent time with the congregation discussing local concerns and engaging with the community.”
