St Teilo’s Church takes centre stage for Dechrau Canu double

St Teilo’s Church in Bishopston will have a starring role in two episodes of S4C’s Dechrau Canu, Dechrau Canmol.

A film crew was at yesterday’s service to record an episode for the St David’s Day programme on March 4, and the second half will go out in the summer to celebrate Gower’s tourism, marine and agricultural life.

Rev Hilary Evans said: “Over 100 people sang their hearts out, and we were very lucky to have Hwyel Evans from All Saints, Oystermouth as the organist. His playing was brilliant and inspiring. The conductor was Alun Tregelles Williams who kept a tight ship and such is his experience that the singing was enjoyable and also excellent.

“During the day the children of YGG Llwynderw had been into the church to record a song, which will be part of the programme. They were enthusiastic and well deserved their first place at last year’s Eisteddfod Yr Urdd.

“Parti Llwchwr joined us and added their experience and beautiful voices to ours.  They also recorded for the programme and they are to be congratulated for the quality of their singing.

“This was a very special day for all and the praise of God echoed off the walls sung in, wrth gwrs, the heavenly language of Welsh.

“We wish to thank Reverend Andrew Pearce and his congregation for the opportunity to worship in such a beautiful and well-maintained church.”
