Special collection helps the homeless in Swansea

Five churches in the Diocese of St Davids are helping the homeless in Swansea after holding a special collection at a Sunday service.

Rev Victoria Jones, the priest in charge of the parishes of Gorslas, Crosshands, Tycroes, Llanedi and Saron, said the collection raised more than £500. It will pay for tokens for the café at St Mary’s Church in Swansea city centre, which will provide a hot drink, sandwich and slice of cake at £3 a time.

Associate Priest at St Mary’s, Rev Helen Rees, said: “The parishes in St Davids have held collections before to help the homeless in Swansea but this year they wanted to take it into another church. They came to see us and we said we’d love to do it.”

St Mary’s café, which is open every day from around 11am to 1.30pm, is run by volunteers and raises funds for the church.
