Community Christmas on the menu at Swansea church

There’s a free Christmas dinner on the menu at one Swansea church, and it promises to be a true community event.

St Thomas’ Church is offering the free dinner to anyone who would otherwise be alone on Christmas Day, and the event has received “overwhelming” support. Everyone is welcome, and it takes place from 11am to 2pm.

St Thomas’ vicar, Rev Steven Bunting, said: “”We already have 25 people coming and appeal for people to check on neighbours and friends who might be alone and invite them along.

“There will be people of all ages and single parent families are very welcome. We don’t want people to look at this as a charity handout but as an opportunity for the community to come together.”

On the menu will be beef, three turkeys and all the trimmings, with donations coming in from Merlin’s Coach Tours, the Dockers Club, the Gwalia Singers and Howells Butchers in Penclawdd.

“I’m completely overwhelmed by all those who have offered to support to help our wonderful event,” Rev Steve said.

Volunteers are still needed to help take older people to the church. Anyone who can help can contact Rev Bunting on 01792 455671 or at office@stthomasandkilvey.co.uk.
