St David’s Church, Ystalyfera celebrates 125 years.
On Sunday 19th June 2016, St David’s Church, Ystalyfera marked the 125th anniversary of its consecration with a special service. Bishop John came to preside at the Eucharist and preach. In his sermon, he reflected upon how the Christian faith sets us free from many of the things we feel can constrain us as people. If this freedom is to mean anything, then it must be expressed in how we serve the community in which we live, something highlighted in the reading for the day from St Luke’s Gospel.
St David’s Church will be open for visitors for much of the week so that visitors can learn something of its history. There will be a celebration of the Holy Eucharist on Friday morning at 10.30 am, June 24th, a Holy Day in the Church’s Calendar commemorating the birth of St John the Baptist (the church was consecrated on June 24th 1891). At 7.00 pm there will be an Anniversary Concert with a local Choir, Cor Dathlu, being the main performers amongst others. Tickets are £7.00 each. Anniversary greeting cards have also been produced by using the skills of members of the church itself.
