July is a month of music at Hay's St Mary's Church, with a packed programme of events.On Saturday, 1 July, guest organist Michael Neville will perform a recital on the Bevington organ, playing a selection of classical pieces.The recital will include works by Johannes Brahms; Joseph Rheinberger; Michael Praetorious; Louis Couperin and others.It starts at 10.30am for 11.00am and entry is free with a retiring collection in aid of St Mary’s Church.On Saturday, 8 July, the Leamington Sinfonia will be performing in St Mary’s for the first time in four years, with a programme including Vivaldi’s Concerto for Recorder and Strings; Peter Warlock’s Capriol Suite; Howard Skempton’s Midsummer Dances and Victor Kaimsky’s Te Deum.Victor Kaimsky is a Ukrainian composer and the Sinfonia are performing this piece in trbute to him and in recognition of the ongoing conflict.It starts at 7pm and entry is free, with a retiring collection in aid of St Mary’s.On Saturday, 15 July, from 3.30-4.30pm Hay Madrigals Consort of Voices and Instruments will present A Summer Concert With Music By Mozart, Purcell and GluckConducted by Paul Sweeting, Hay Madrigals will perform beautiful music from Mozart’s very late time – just before his death – and his very early time.Firstly, his Ave Verum Corpus, sung by the choir, will be accompanied on the organ by Fr Richard.This will be followed by a performance of Mozart’s Missa Brevis in D minor, composed when he was just 13.Scenes from two early operas follow: a duet and aria from Gluck’s Orfeo ed Euridice (1762); followed by songs and choruses from Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas (1689), including the famous ‘Dido’s lament’.The voices will be accompanied by strings and chamber organ throughout.Entry £10 on the door, under 18s free. All proceeds will be donated to the upkeep of St Mary’s Church..On Thursday, 27 July, at 1pm, the pupils of London Borough of Redbridge Music School will perform a programme including Greig’s Holberg Suite and quartets by Haydn and Mozart.The age range of the pupils is 10 to 18 and each of the pupils either receives lessons or plays in one of the weekly ensembles in the Music School.The concert is the culmination of a week’s stay at Trewern Outdoor Centre, combining rehearsals with the outdoor activities that the centre provides in the Wye Valley and in the Bannau Brychieniog.Entry is free, with a retiring collection in aid of St Mary’sOn Friday, 28 July, at 7pm, Hay Music presents: ‘Impressions’ – Rolf HInd, PianoRolf Hind is one of Britain’s foremost pianists and this evening will play a programme of evocative and impressionistic music.The programme will include works by Robert Schumann; Maurice Ravel; Olivier Messiaen as well as Janacek and John Adams.Rolf Hind will also be performing his own work ‘Khaga’.Rolf Hind’s career has established him as a major force as soloist, composer, recording artist, chamber musician, pedagogue, collaborator and concert planner. He has given recitals at many of Europe’s leading new music festivals, and at Carnegie Hall, Sydney Opera House and on tours of Korea, Taiwan and Cuba.Tickets are £17.50 (under 25s £8.75).
