Archbishop John had great pleasure in licensing a new Priest-in-Charge of the Benefice of Gowerton and Associate Priest in the Llwchwr Ministry Area on November 14.
Rev Alex Pye, who has many years’ experience in ministry both in the Diocese of Monmouth and Swansea and Brecon, has taken on a new role that will see him working mainly as part of the developing ministry team in the Llwchwr Ministry Area.
The Archbishop was pleased with the work undertaken so far and was encouraged to hear that the congregations have been increasingly joining together for worship and other events such as the St Barnabas Friday Bible Study group.
With a cleric now placed where there was a vacant parsonage in the Ministry Area, the Archbishop and the team of clergy in Llwchwr ministry area are now looking forward to implementing the plans that were agreed at their Ministry Area Council and, in doing so, are implementing locally the Church in Wales’ provincial expectation that the diocese moves into ministry areas to be able to share God’s mission more fully between churches and encourage one another in faith and witness.
Much work has been done in developing a new pattern of worship, both ordained and lay-led, that will see clergy working with all the churches in the ministry area and sharing that Ministry with existing and newly trained lay ministers.
The Archbishop asked for God’s blessing upon the gathered congregation and the whole ministry area as they now begin this exciting and new way of working.
Rev Canon Peter Brooks, Area Dean.
