Ordinands ‘represent variety and richness of our mission’

Brecon Cathedral was full this afternoon for the annual ordinations service.

Welcoming the ordinands and congregation, Bishop John said: “I conducted the ordination service in Llandaff Cathedral this morning and I will say of the candidates what I said of the candidates there, and that is that they make me think of Liquorice Allsorts.

“That’s because, unlike ministry from a number of years ago, nowadays we see people discerning for ordained ministry from a variety of different backgrounds, from a variety of different faith journeys and with a variety of skills and gifts. You represent that variety, that richness of our mission and you have much in different ways to offer.”

Ordained as priests were Justin Davies, Ian Folks, Hywel Griffiths, Nigel King, David Martin, Anthony Porter, Lance Sharpe and Rachael Storer. Bronwyn Curnow was ordained deacon.

The sermon was given by Canon Dr Jeni Parsons, who had been leading the ordinands during their retreat at Llangasty House.
